check source

KCI check source

The Geiger-Müller counter tubes will function empirically over a period of 10-20 years.

Strong radiation will shorten live span as quenching gas is consumed faster.

After many years of use we recommend a functionality checkup of counter tubes through a check source, which emits 12 Bq +/- 1 at surface.

It is a KCl pellet (5 g), embedding natural radioactivity (K-40) of about 85 Bq, but releasing only 12 Bq at its surface, as BETA radiation remains to a large extent inside the pellet.

Please note: keep check source always separated from counter tubes, to avoid reduction of live span and function!
